Samyang Genex solidified its position as a world leading company of life science products through the development of an inexpensive, but extremely effective natural anticancer drug.
How can Samyang Genex be accurately described? It has frequently appeared in stock related articles. The company has built up its reputation in the domestic/foreign pharmaceutical industry for many years, but is not well known among general consumers because the company does not produce goods which are directly purchased by the consumers themselves.
The Korean Wall Street did not have an interest in Samyang Genex¡¯s corporate activities until the company succeeded in developing cultivation of paclitaxel cells, a source material of Genexol, the so called the new generation anticancer drug, in 1995. A natural anticancer drug, paclitaxel is highly recognized to be the least contaminated as well as the most effective anticancer drug that has ever been produced. However, it had problems including high production costs and damage to the environment because materials were extracted directly from yew trees. As Samyang Genex successfully cultivated plant cells for paclitaxel in September 1995, it became possible to easily raise and reduce production of paclitaxel by simply expanding ferments. Genexol is the brand name of paclitaxel that Samyang Genex has developed. Genexol is known to be very effective for the treatment of uterine and breast cancer as well as other incurable diseases including other cancers and arthritis. Vigorous application studies are taking place around the world. Samyang Genex completed the construction of the Genexol production plant in 1997. It is currently in the process of a trial operation, and the plant is spoken highly of by both facilities and technologies. The company anticipates that Genexol will be placed on the market for full-scale sale in 2001. Developing Genexol, Samyang-Genex has grown to be a future-oriented biological company rather than just a raw food material supplier. The company is prepared to compete with other world leading companies in area of life science. The life science industry is one of 21 state-of-the-art high value-added industries in which many advanced countries have made great interests and are considered to be the areas with the most potential.
