The Samyang Genex Research Institute was founded in 1982 with a corporate goal focused on
developing new materials for food products.
Using natural high molecules, the institute has made remarkable achievements in developing
high molecular compound materials, environment materials, health food and functional food
materials, fermented products and medical materials.

In addition, the current institute in the Daedeok Research Complex was built in August 1993.

The Biotech Research Institute succeeded in developing Genexol, an anti-cancer drug which was
developed by a plant tissue culture method. It was acknowledged as the first successful trial
in the world.
